DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPEDICS

Dr. Rodrigue is a specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. All orthodontists are university-trained dentists. Once they have completed their training, some move on to general practice, while others continue towards a specialty that will require an additional three years of university training. There are 10 dental specialties recognized by the ODQ (Ordre des dentistes du Québec). One of them is “orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.” While orthodontics deals primarily with tooth movement, dentofacial orthopedics involves guiding the growth and development that occurs primarily during childhood and adolescence. In both cases, intraoral appliances are frequently used. Sometimes dentofacial orthopedics will precede orthodontic treatment, but in most cases, the two techniques are used simultaneously.

JAW SURGERY

In the same way that orthodontics is used to reposition teeth, jaw (or orthognathic) surgery is used to correct skeletal (jaw bone) abnormalities that improve the overall function of the orofacial complex and the patient’s appearance. Generally, treatment with jaw surgery must be combined with concomitant orthodontic treatment. Dr. Rodrigue may consider this combined approach for patients who have stopped growing and who complain of poor facial aesthetics. Jaw growth is usually completed by age 16 for girls and 18 for boys.

CLARITY™ ADVANCED – AESTHETIC BRACKETS

Aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and effective, Clarity™ Advanced ceramic brackets will keep you smiling during your orthodontic treatment. These braces now replace metal braces when there is no danger of wear from antagonistic teeth.

INVISALIGN TREATMENT

The Invisalign treatment is the ideal choice for anyone looking for an orthodontic appliance. It consists of a series of small transparent aligners that are changed periodically. Your teeth will move gradually and comfortably. Each aligner is made to measure based on a treatment plan specially designed for you.

Below are some of the advantages of an Invisalign treatment.
Transparency: The aligners are practically invisible.
Comfort: The aligners are made to measure for your teeth.
Hygiene: The aligners can be removed to use dental floss and brush your teeth.
Simplicity: Appointments are shorter and often fewer than with an orthodontic treatment that uses metal braces.
Food: There are fewer food restrictions than with an orthodontic treatment that uses metal braces.
